Valencia oranges are grown primarily for their very sweet, brightly colored juice. Oval, dark green leaves and fragrant white flowers that grow in clusters add to the ornamental value of the tree. The medium-sized fruit has a smooth, thick skin and the flesh is often used for making extracts and preserves. The Valencia orange is unique in that the fruit becomes sweeter the longer the orange is on the tree. However, the longer the fruit stays in the sun, the greater the possibility for the skin to turn green again.
